Chief Executive Officer

The bio of Cleopas Maseko
I was born on the 21st of February 1976 and have powerful convictions for the potential of the African continent. I joined Thembalethu Nkomazi in 2004 because of the significant role played by the organization in shaping the community of Nkomazi. From 2005 to 2007, I left Thembalethu Nkomazi to teach at Shammah Private College as I regarded teaching as a way of empowering the youth in confronting the root issues of HIV and AIDS and poverty. I re-joined Thembalethu Nkomazi in 2008, as manager of the Youth in Action (YIA) project of Thembalethu, and in 2010 became the deputy-CEO of the organization. In 2012, the Board appointed me as CEO (Chief Executive Officer), and I continued working closely with the Founding Director (Sally McKibbin).
I currently serve as a director for Za Foundation (UK charity) which is supporting us in implementing activities that focus on children and youth work aimed at addressing social and economic conditions in our community. I’m also a trustee for Nkomazi Trust Fund which assists in our programmes. From 2017 to 2020, I have also been a director for Lourie Emmaus Community which is a structure strengthening Christian leadership and empowering church leadership to respond to the suffering of the marginalized sick, poor, and vulnerable. From 1999 to 2002, I studied for, but could not complete, a BCom degree at Wits University, however, I am currently pursuing the same degree through UNISA.
Being part of Thembalethu Nkomazi gives me a platform to contribute to solving social and economic challenges being faced by the citizens of the Nkomazi region. It is indeed a privilege and an honour to lead the organization in empowering our people to take control and overcome their circumstances.
I am married, have one son and two daughters that were adopted into the family. We live at Schoemansdal and we are all passionate about community development. The more we are strong as individuals, it will lead to healthier families and our society will flourish.
