Providing Home Based Care

This program used to be at the core of Thembalethu Nkomazi's work. It provides direct health care to those in need. Although the organisation has significantly scaled down on the activities for the home based care project including the size of the team employed under this project. The scaling down was informed by the fact that there is been improvement in enrolling people that are HIV positive on the Antiretroviral programme. As a result there are fewer people in need of home based care services in comparison to the late 1990 and early 2000.
The organisation currently has two teams i.e. one based at Schoemansdal servicing the eastern part of Nkomazi. The other team is based at Block B and is servicing the western parts of Nkomazi. Both teams encourage our people to adhere to medicine through the provision of counselling to clients and having support group sessions. The Schoemansdal centre is also now being used as a pick-up point for medicine for our clients. All these initiatives are made in order to increase adherence for medicine by our clients.
