My name is Phindile Constance Mthethwa. I was born and raised in Boschfontein. I started my primary school in Boschfontein primary school and went to Emjindini secondary school. I completed my matric at Mbambiso high school at Boschfontein in 2005. I live at Schulzendal with my family 0f 4. After completing school, I then worked at Masisukumeni Women's Crisis Centre in 2008 up until 2010. I joined Thembalethu Nkomazi at the end of January 2011 as a facilitator then in 2016 I was promoted to be the programme leader for the Peer Education programme.
Peer Education is a programme that focuses on the youth, mainly in school. we get to challenge their beliefs, self-esteem and visions for their future. In the programme we have roles of peer educators which are role modelling a healthy and enhancing behavior, educating their peers, recognise and refer peers in need of this programme. We also create a safe environment for them to share their problems with us because It is easier for them to share with the facilitators than to share with their parents.
I am inspired by this programme because we are raising positive leaders in our community. Moreover, the youth in our programme are making a positive impact within their peers. I always say, we are role models, and we have to always lead by example. “The message giver is the strongest message”.
